Invitation to Artists
The Town of Sidney, in partnership with the Community Arts Council for Saanich Peninsula, is seeking expressions of interest from artists to exhibit their outdoor public art for approximately two years as part of the Sidney Seaside Sculpture Walk.
Phase 1 of the project is to select a minimum of 12 sculptures to be installed for approximately two years. The plan is to add more sculptures every year until the vision is realized.
The vision is to create an inspiring outdoor public art walk for the 2 km length of the Sidney waterfront promenade.
Artist Responsibility
The artist is totally responsible for the creation, delivery and to work with the TOWN OF SIDNEY for installation of the art piece.
Town of Sidney
The Town will provide and install the bases for the sculptures.
Specifications
The sculpture should be original work made of vandalism-resistant durable material suitable for an outdoor, exposed waterfront location, which is subject to heavy rain, salt spray, and wind.
Sculpture Acceptance Committee
A committee will be established to evaluate the submissions and to make recommendations to the Town of Sidney.
Selection Criteria
The Acceptance Committee will select works which will engage the community and be appropriate for public exhibition in a beautiful waterfront setting.
Applications Submission
Applications must be submitted with attachments by email as described in the Application Form section.
Schedule
Applications can be submitted at any time, however only applications received by 4 p.m. on December 30, 2011 will be considered by the Acceptance Committee for installation in 2012.
Applications received after that date may be considered for exhibition at a later date as space becomes available.
